# Tools

> Use of tools with OpenRouter's Responses API.

OpenRouter Response API standardizes the tool calling interface across models and providers, making it easy to integrate external tools with any supported model.

## Prerequisites

Set OPENROUTER\_API\_KEY environment variable.
